On 30th July 2018, the citizens’ association ‘’The Danube 1245” organized the first project activity of the European project ‘’WISE’’ (While Innovating and Strengthening Europe) under the programme ‘’Europe for Citizens’’.

The first project activity – “EU LEARN” was realized in cooperation with the Pensioners’ Association of Sremski Karlovci. Local citizens were informed and educated about the EU history, institutions, values and the 60th anniversary of the Treaty of Rome through educational videos, quiz and hands-on activities.

In addition, inter-generational dialogue was promoted through storytelling by senior citizens in the beautiful “Paradise Garden” at the premises of the Pensioners’ Association.

Finally, despite the rain, a number of citizens took part in the discussion on the European future of Serbia at the picturesque Karlovci Viewpoint amphitheatre.

The next project activity will be realized in the period September – November 2018.

WISE – While Innovating and Strengthening Europe” is the new project launched by ALDA under the Europe for Citizens programme. The project, that stems from the Treaty of Rome’s 60th anniversary, will be implemented by a promising network of international partners coming from sixteen different countries in Europe.

Through the implementation of local processes in every partner’s country and two international events, WISE has the potential to achieve thriving outcomes. The activities will provide an understanding of the European Union and its values to all citizens involved. Taking into consideration the current political scenario and challenges faced by the EU, the project is aimed to foster European citizenship and to improve civic and democratic participation.

Citizens will participate in open debates on EU current challenges, and will be engaged on how they can individually and actively participate in the EU. Through a non-formal and creative methodology, partners will try to improve European citizen’s awareness of the EU system. They will be encouraged to have a more participative stance, considering the challenges faced by the EU in approaching the upcoming 2019 elections.
