Virtual kick-off event of EU Interreg Project IDES

On September 8, 2020, starting at 9.00 am, a meeting was held, through the ZOOM platform, participants of the IDES project “Improving water quality in the Danube river and its tributaries by integrative floodplain management based on Ecosystem Services”.

The aim of the project is to improve water quality in the Danube region by analyzing different ecosystem services of floodplains that either affect or are affected by water quality and integrating the principles of ecosystem services into management strategies / processes for such areas.

The language of the event is English.

Welcome to all participants was wished by Prof. Dr. Bernd Ziffka (Catholic University of Eichstatt-Ingolstadt, Germany) and after the presentation of the partners, the presentation of the project began.

General introduction to IDES was given by Marion Gelhaus (Catholic University of Eichstatt-Ingolstadt, Germany)

Technical Work Package 1: Water Quality Assessment in Flood Plains and Water-Related Ecosystem Services as well as IDES tool development was presented by Dr. Elisabeth Bondar-Kunze (University of Natural Resources and Natural Sciences, Vienna, Austria)

Technical Work Package 2: Identification of water quality management actions in floodplains of pilot areas supported by the IDES approach was presented by Cristian Mihai Adamescu (University of Bucharest, Romania)

Technical Work Package 3: Strategy for Integrated Water Quality Management in the Danube Region was presented by David Bela Vizi (Central Tisza Water Directorate, Szolnok, Hungary).

IDES communication was presented by Alexandra Damian (WWF-Romania). The final discussion was led by Dr. Barbara Stammel (Catholic University of Eichstatt-Ingolstadt, Germany) who thanked all the participants of this event which ended at 12 o’clock.

We are grateful to Prof. Dr. Zorica Srđević, project coordinator at the Faculty of Agriculture, Department of Water Management, Novi Sad, who included us in the IDES project.
