Conference in Svinica, Romania, April 25-27, 2024

In Romania, on the banks of the Danube, in the town of Svinica from April 25 to 27, 2024, a Conference of Romanian, Serbian and Macedonian Local Action Groups (LAGs) was held on the topic of applying Green Energy in order to develop the Social Economy in rural areas Vasile Deak, organizer and the president of LAG Dunavska Klisura (in Romanian GAL Clisura Dunării) presented projects in which LAG participates, as well as examples of best practices in the use of renewable energy. We were shown the projects financed by LAG in Svinica itself – the House of Figs, (Casa di Smochine), as well as the Svinica House. Representatives of the Polytechnic University of Timisoara presented their activities on the promotion and development of renewable energy sources. One of the speakers at the conference was Nikola Kurić, mayor of Svinica. He presented Svinica and the activities of the local self-government. In the last ten years, Svinica, as a local community, has significantly improved its infrastructure, economic and tourist potential using development funds from both the Republic of Romania and the European Union. The application of renewable energy sources, primarily solar energy, is particularly noticeable in both public and private buildings in the village.

During the conference, we established contacts with representatives of LAG Dunavska Klisura and LAG Timiš Torontal Barzava from Deta – a municipality near the Serbian border and exchanged opinions on possible future joint projects. Also, we established contacts and agreed future joint activities with Macedonian and Serbian lags (Lag “Partnerstvo za Potamišje” Lag “Fruška gora – Danube”, Lag “Pannonski fiaker”) as well as with the Foundation for local development from Đevđelia.
